DeGate supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals at ETH Bogota

Ethereum community continues to show that it has no borders and has descended to Bogota to host a series of events in the city, for the city and for the region.

ETH Bogota is a hackathon organised by ETH Global in Bogota, Colombia, on October 7–9, 2022. The hackathon commenced a few days before Devcon, the long-awaited Ethereum meetup.

Ethereum community has strong values and aims to show that it is truly global, decentralized and fully inclusive. Hackathons, conferences, workshops and gatherings are taking place across the globe thanks to ETH Global and the Ethereum Foundation, as well as the efforts of the whole Ethereum community.

In the Ethereum community, a question often arises- ‘How do we onboard the next one billion users?’ Today, two-thirds of the babies are born in emerging countries, and they are the next billion builders and users of Ethereum. Latin America is one of the fastest-growing and most promising Web3 ecosystems. Ethereum has already embarked on a mission of spreading awareness, educating and seeking to improve the public goods infrastructure.

ETH Bogota was sponsored by over 40 partners that encouraged Latin American and international developers to build solutions on top of their protocols and create a dApp using Ethereum infrastructure and tools to win a bounty. Projects such as Optimism, Aztec, IPFS/Filecoin, Polygon, Scroll, Boba, ENS, and DeGate partnered with ETH Bogota and offered bounties for developers who gathered to build solutions over the course of 2 days in Bogota.

In total, 212 submissions were made for the ETH Bogota hackathon, with $500,000 of awarded in prizes. The jury selected 12 finalists; watch out for these projects!

frens, Blobscan Explorer, Bet Streams, ETHernal Reviews, PULP, Superseded, Coedia Network, Zipline, Anonymous Vickrey Auctions On Chain, diZKreet, ClubSpace, txn.xyz

DeGate bounty at ETH Bogota — United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals

DeGate DAO, which is behind DeGate DEX, a ZKrollup DEX protocol on Ethereum, supports the values of Ethereum, and wanted to express support for improving the good public infrastructure, which is one of the values of the community- to foster regenerative finance and regenerative use of technology.

DeGate, therefore, gave a task that is not directly related to the DEX protocol; rather, DeGate has encouraged developers to build a solution that contributes to one of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (UN 17 SDGs).

One of the goals of Ethereum is to build for good, for inclusivity, and to improve access, which also resonates with the UN 17 SDGs.

DeGate evangelists who acted as jury in Bogota during ETH Bogota have selected three winners:

  • Skywood
  • Sigcure
  • goEV

DeGate ETH Bogota winners:

Skywood uses blockchain technology to monitor and provide public information about deforestation and ecosystem damage. It is a satellite ecosystem monitoring service that uses and processes satellite image technology and utilises Chainlink, IPFS and Polygon.

Skywood team presenting to DeGate jury at ETH Bogota

DeGate awarded Skywood as the best-submitted solution, contributing to United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals. UN SDG 15 is to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

Skywood team comes from Colombia and saw the problem of deforestation first-hand. The team believes that we can make better decisions with better information about what is happening to the forests and the ecosystem. In essence, Skywood tech captures a satellite image as NFT and enables comparison between various data points.

Skywood project has also won awards from IPFS/Filecoin, Polygon and Chainlink at ETH Bogota.

Sigcure was awarded second place by DeGate at ETH Bogota hackathon as the best solution contributing to the United Nations 17 SDGs.

Sigcure is a gasless multi-signature-protected password manager. The team has devised a solution to improve the password manager using Ethereum tools.

Sigcure team with DeGate evangelist Agne Linge

Sigcure works by leveraging off-chain Ethereum message signing instead of using a smart contract-powered multisig. The solution maintains similar security practices without paying the transaction costs of storing signatures offchain.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 9 is to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. It encourages access to information and communications technology to support domestic technology development, provide affordable access to the Internet, among other targets. By creating solutions to improve the adoption of technologies and adaptability of Web3 to SMEs, and institutions, Sigcure fosters innovation and builds resilient infrastructure.

Sigcure has also won awards from IPFS- Top 10, WalletConnect V 2.0 track, and Coinbase as the best wallet integration. Check out the project HERE.

The third prize by DeGate at ETH Bogota for the best solution for 17 UN SDGs was awarded to goEV- a decentralized market for Electric Vehicle charging stations. United Nations SDG 11 aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

The team has built a dApp using Ethereum tools, aiming to provide better and cheaper EV station experience for EV owners.

Farewell to ETH Bogota

DeGate congratulates all the winners of the ETH Bogota hackathon for showing that Ethereum has the tools to make the World a better place and that the community and developers are willing to do so.

The Ethereum community has shown its commitment to building a regenerative economy, improving the public goods infrastructure and social and economic inclusivity.

DeGate, a DEX protocol that utilizes Zero-Knowledge technology, wants to encourage new and existing developers to have a broad horizon and look for inspiration to build solutions. Technology enables us to look at existing problems from a different angle and build a better infrastructure for the future.

DeGate wants to thank ETH Global, the Ethereum Foundation and the Ethereum community for inspiring to build a better, more resilient, censorship-resistant, socially inclusive and technologically advanced World.

About DeGate

DeGate is a Decentralized Exchange (DEX) protocol built on Zero Knowledge (ZK) technology. As a ZK rollup, DeGate fills a key gap in the market by providing spot orderbook trading and grid trading within the Ethereum ecosystem, offering an experience similar to centralized exchanges. DeGate is a DAO-centric protocol, with a DAO fully controlling its treasury.

DeGate is focused on being user-friendly and is built on the principle of Trustlessness, or ‘Can’t do evil’, with no Admin Key. Users can expect super-low gas fees that are the result of DeGate’s special Efficient Gas Saving technology. This innovation ensures significant gas savings while maintaining a decentralized protocol.

DeGate also enables permissionless listing, meaning that any token can be listed in a permissionless manner through an open listing mechanism. Expect DeGate Mainnet on Ethereum later this year.
